Carlton launches Substack, The Travel Communicator

Travel and food writer Alexandra Carlton has launched a Substack, The Travel Communicator aimed at travel communicator professionals or people who are interested in joining the industry.  The Substack will include regular one-on-ones with industry insiders such as travel writers, editors, PRs, business owners and more.  Carlton wrote on LinkedIn, “The Travel communicator isn’t a travel blog: it’s a chatty, behind-the-scenes, inside baseball community hub for travel media professionals (actual or aspiring!).” The Substack will drop newsletters which will share how they got started, how they build relationships, how they pitch or edit, and stories about their biggest travel communicator win and ‘don’t make the same mistake I did’ blunders. Vrajlal steps up at Refinery29

Alicia Vrajlal has been promoted to senior culture editor at Pedestrian Group’s Refinery29. Vrajlal will lead editorial strategy, ideation and execution for Refinery29’s conversation-driving coverage of pop culture & entertainment news. Vrajlal said that her promotion was an “early Xmas gift”. Connolly departs CIO for Sit-Down

Former CIO editor Byron Connolly has left Foundry (previously IDG Communications) to take up the position of Director of Research & Production for the CIO, CDO and CISO audiences at research & events firm Sit-Down. “My role is primarily about understanding and researching the market as the director of research and production for CIO, CDO and CISO personas,” Connolly told Influencing. “I will present insights and moderate discussions with senior technology executives at Sit-Down’s various events, and create content for CIOs, CDOs, and CISOs on Sit-Down’s website”. ARN has announced sports presenter Max Burford will join Mix 102.3’s The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show in 2023. Burford has recently announced his appointment to co-front Adelaide’s 10 News First weekday bulletin. Burford said he has been lucky to have had “some great mentors throughout his career” and Ali Clarke is one such.  “The early mornings will take some getting used to, but assuming I don’t sleep through the alarm it’s going to be a whole lot of fun talking nonsense with the people of Adelaide every day,” he said. Annabelle McNamara has been appointed as the executive producer of the Carrie & Tommy national Drive show.  McNamara has been a part of the producer team for five years, most recently as a senior producer.  Hit Network content director of National Shows, Sonder Novak-Booth said “Belle has been an invaluable member of the Carrie & Tommy team for 4.5 years and worked on all facets of the show, including running multiple big content executions. Brennan departs Kiindred to begin freelancing

Bella Brennan has departed her role as parenting editor at Kiindred to begin as a freelance writer, editor and copywriter.  She joined the pregnancy and parenting website in June this year.  Brennan announced her decision on LinkedIn saying, “I'm super excited to share that I've finally decided to go freelance. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into my own writing and work on new projects.” She has worked as a digital managing editor at Are Media’s Now to Love, Woman’s Day, TV Week, AWW and Girlfriend and has also worked as a former showbusiness reporter at MailOnline.  After starting her career as an intern at Cleo Magazine, she worked as an advertising coordinator for Madison Magazine, picture and production coordinator at SHOP Til You Drop and was then promoted to sub-editor.
