Kelly to host chat show Frankly

Former RN Breakfast host Fran Kelly is set to host ABC’s new chat show, Frankly.  Kelly will bring her interview style with frank and fun chats with some of Australia’s biggest names including actors, musicians, comedians and big thinkers.  Kelly said that leaving RN breakfast was ‘bittersweet’ but she is excited about the new show.  “I’m loving the sleep-ins but missing all those incredible conversations with fabulous guests from around Australia and the world,” Kelly said. “People have been asking ever since what’s next for me. Well this is it and I can’t wait. More great conversations, a live audience and my own band…what’s not to be excited about. Dean joins The Conversation

Signe Dean has joined The Conversation as science & technology section editor. Prior to this, Signe was a deputy editor before getting promoted to the position of managing editor of ScienceAlert. Dean was also a freelance science journalist for nearly 6 years with articles appearing in Australian Geographic, National Geographic, Science Alert, The Scientist, Australasian Science and other outlets.  She has also worked as a Latvian executive producer and an online science editor at SBS for more than three years.  Dean has also worked at the University of Latvia, Australian Geographic and Stenders in various editorial roles.   

Gailberger steps up at The Herald Sun

Jade Gailberger has been promoted as the federal political editor at the Herald Sun. Prior to this, Gailberger was a federal political reporter for the title. She has also worked as a political reporter at News Corp where she established the Canberra bureau for NCA news wire and covered breaking political stories across The Australian, News.com.au and tabloids.  Gailberger was initially a journalist covering breaking news and environmental news before being promoted as a federal political reporter. She has also edited the Southern Times Messenger newspaper.  Gailberger’s appointment is effective immediately.   

Maher transitions into Editor in Chief position at CRN and IoT Hub

Former Nextmedia commercial editor William Maher has moved into the Editor in Chief position at CRN Australia and IoT Hub. Maher will lead the editorial team for both mastheads, supervising the Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland-based journalists including Nico Arboleda, Jeremy Nadel and Natalie Apostolou. “It's been exciting,” Maher said. “I'd say it's been a somewhat straightforward transition because in my previous role as commercial editor, the projects I was involved on for IT news, CRN, and IoT Hub, those projects often had editorial and commercial components”. “I was a member of the CRN news desk team a while ago so it's been great to also be back involved in the editorial side of things again, much more closely.” Under Nextmedia’s group managing editor Andrew Birmingham, CRN Australia have scheduled events to discuss the title on both a short and long term scale. Harper’s BAZAAR is claimed to be Australia’s ‘premier destination for fashion and beauty, wellness and culture and art and shopping’.  

Armstrong becomes national political editor

Clare Armstrong has commenced as the national political editor at The Daily Telegraph, The Courier-Mail, The Herald Sun and The Advertiser based in Canberra.  Prior to that, she was a national political reporter at The Daily Telegraph, reporting on federal politics from the Canberra Press Gallery and a journalist focusing on general news based in Sydney, NSW’s education, drought and politics.  Armstrong was also a freelance contributor at the Australian Sky News channel, contributing to various programs' political analysis.  She was also a political reporter at The Townsville Bulletin, a journalist at The Courier-Mail and a freelance graphic designer at the Walkley Foundation for journalism.  Armstrong began her career as a freelance music journalist and on-air announcer before becoming a news coordinator at 4ZZZ.  In 2021, she received the Wallace Brown Award recognising the best young journalist in the federal parliament press gallery.

LiSTNR and RiAus partner to initiate 'The Science Briefing'

LiSTNR and The Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus) have launched a new podcast hosted by Dr Sophie Calabretto. Named The Science Briefing, the show aims to make science more approachable and accessible to the younger generations. The Science Briefing is a podcast series which will produce two episodes a week, unravelling and analysing a new science story every episode. Applied mathematician and fluid mechanist Sophie Calabretto will host the podcast series with a goal of changing the stigma surrounding science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects, adding an engaging and interesting twist. “I get really sad when I hear kids don't like maths and science, because I think it's so interesting, and it's so important. I really hope that with the science briefing that we can bring out that excitement,” Calabretto said. “I think it's important to make science more approachable and more accessible to people.
